Hola!

Welcome to La Choza

La Choza is the home of authentic Mexican food in Brighton. Nestled in the North Laine, we serve delicious, slow-cooked Mexican street food. Recommended by The Guardian and named one of the UK’s best ‘cheap eats’ in the Observer Food Monthly awards, our menu is available to take away, or you can relax and enjoy the full La Choza experience in our famously flamboyant restaurant. Our mouth-watering menu includes fresh tacos, burritos and quesadillas, with fillings like pulled pork, homemade Mexican chorizo, chilli prawns, spiced roasted squash and many more. We also offer a range of traditional drinks, from Mexican hot chocolate to top-shelf tequila, mescal and Mexican beers.

Bringing Mexico to the Brighton North Laine!

Aoife and Annie – lifelong foodies – felt that Brighton’s brilliant food scene was missing one thing: truly authentic Mexican food. Our genuine passion for Mexican cuisine is what makes La Choza unique, and we still continually research and experiment to make sure we’re fore runner of the Mexican food revolution in Brighton. We also visit Mexico on food-finding missions, choosing the most exciting recipes to inspire our menus back in Brighton. We’ve researched Mexican cooking methods, roamed the markets, cooked with local people in their homes and yes, stuffed our faces. But all that means we can proudly offer up the first truly authentic Mexican street food – something The Guardian agreed with when they made us one of their top picks for dining in the city [HYPERLINK].

Of course, you don’t just have to take

Our Table

Fast food, slow cooked

While our food might be fast, the preparation is slow. Slow-cooked, to be precise. In fact, your order began taking shape long before that mid-afternoon Mexican craving even popped into your head! Our locally sourced meats are slowly stewed in fresh herbs and spices, infusing them with flavour and depth, and we spend hours preparing the sauces, salsas and other extras that complement our dishes.

Our locally sourced meats are slowly stewed in fresh herbs and spices, infusing them with flavour and depth, and we spend hours preparing the sauces, salsas and other extras that complement our dishes.

Of course, the specials are where our chefs can really showcase their creativity, and a lot of work goes into making sure we always have a selection of exciting new dishes for you to try. We have hundreds of cookery books, and the kitchen team use them as a jumping off point to develop new ways of preparing traditional Mexican recipes. Lots of tasting later, and the end result is a specials board bursting with inventive yet authentic dishes.

However, the real secret to truly mouthwatering Mexican food is chillies, and lots of them. But don’t panic – they have an entirely unfair reputation for being hot. In fact, chillies come in a huge range of heats, and we use them to create amazingly complex, layered flavours that make every mouthful unique. Most of our meals are fine for those with a milder palate, and you can kick it up a notch by adding one of our spicy salsas. Really, it’s in our interest to clearly mark our hottest dishes – if you burn your mouth, you won’t be able to tell people about La Choza! We’re also proud to say that the Observer Food Monthly Awards named us one of the UK’s best ‘cheap eats’. Great food shouldn’t cost the earth, so being affordable for all is one of the key La Choza principles. Our food is also suitable for vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs – everyone is catered for at La Choza!

Everything from the hand sourced coverings on our seats to the ever changing art on our walls has been carefully chosen to make eating at La Choza more than just a meal.
